SAY GOODBYE TO PAINFUL INGROWN TOENAILS

At Sydney Podiatry Services, we specialise in the permanent removal of painful ingrown toenails, ensuring relief and long-term comfort for our patients. An ingrown toenail occurs when the edge or corner of a toenail grows into the surrounding skin, often leading to infection and significant discomfort. This condition is most common in the big toe and can be caused by improper nail trimming or wearing tight-fitting shoes. If you're experiencing pain, redness, or swelling, it's essential to seek professional care to prevent further complications.

CAUSES & SYMPTOMS OF INGROWN TOENAILS

Ingrown toenails, or onychocryptosis, typically develop due to improper nail cutting, particularly cutting the nails too short or rounding off the sides. Tight or narrow shoes that don’t allow the toes enough space to move freely can also contribute to the problem. Common symptoms include redness, swelling, pain, and warmth in the affected area. If left untreated, the condition can worsen, leading to infections that require medical intervention. At Sydney Podiatry Services, we are here to provide quick and effective solutions to relieve your discomfort.

SURGICAL SOLUTIONS FOR INGROWN TOENAILS

When conservative treatments aren’t enough, we offer surgical options to permanently remove the problematic part of the toenail. A Partial Nail Avulsion (PNA) with phenolisation is the most common procedure, removing only the ingrown section of the nail while leaving the rest intact. For more severe cases, a Total Nail Avulsion (TNA) may be recommended, where the entire toenail is removed to prevent future regrowth issues. Both procedures are safe, take less than an hour, and are performed under local anaesthetic to ensure a comfortable experience for the patient.

AFTERCARE & RECOVERY

At Sydney Podiatry Services, we take aftercare seriously to ensure your quick recovery and avoid complications. We’ll provide you with detailed instructions to follow after your surgery, including keeping the area clean and dry, wearing open-toe shoes, and taking over-the-counter pain relief if needed. You'll return to the clinic to have your dressing removed after a few days, and we recommend arranging transport home on the day of surgery. Our team will support you throughout the recovery process, making sure you heal properly and stay pain-free moving forward.
